From its UK based state of the art facilities, fully calibrated ASIC /MEMS tyre pressure devices are supplied via our partner to the vast majority of the world’s automotive OEMs.
The SWINDON Approach
SWINDON’s world leading TPMS ASICs are a family of battery powered direct pressure measurement products designed to surpass the ever increasing functionality requirements while still matching our customer’s demands for low cost solutions. The designs comprise a MEMS pressure sensor, calibrated over temperature to the ASIC, and a custom micro-controller with embedded software which controls several peripheral functions used in the process of measuring pressure, temperature and communication to the car.
Each ASIC has a highly sensitive, polled motion detector circuit which provides a wake-up feature to the micro-controller which senses when the car is moving and turns the system on. The embedded software dictates the sequence of events thereafter which can vary depending on customer requirements. Typically a pressure and temperature measurement would occur where any change from the previous value would activate the PLL based RF transmitter and deliver encoded data for reception by a receiver located somewhere in the vehicle.
Ultra Low Power and high quality
A small single cell lithium battery is used to power these ASICs and an operating life of 10 years is guaranteed through ground breaking ultra low power design techniques. The management of power consumption has been an important aspect of the design philosophy throughout the product development. Numerous safety mechanisms are included to prevent any lock-up of the device and a low frequency 125 KHz ASK receiver is provided as an external interface for module control and diagnostic purposes once the ASIC module is placed inside the wheel.
This challenging market demands full automotive quality to TS16949 standards with less than 1 part million field failure rates. SWINDON meets these exacting requirements whilst continually providing new features for next generations. This continual improvement process enables its customer to support not only existing demand from their current prestige motor manufacturers, but to win new business with other famous marques.
